In industrial automated production, emergency stopping is a necessary safety measure to handle unexpected situations. However, the huge inertial impact generated at the moment of emergency stop can become a "hidden killer" for electric servo cylinders. In mild cases, it affects operational accuracy; in severe cases, it causes serious mechanical failures such as screw breakage and flange damage. Especially during design evaluation or unexpected emergency stops, clarifying impact risks and protective measures is critical to ensuring equipment safety and stable production.
Hazards of Emergency Stop Impact: More Than Just a Sudden Stop, But Severe Hard Damage
During an emergency stop, the load driven by the electric servo cylinder generates an instantaneous impact force due to inertia. This force is directly transmitted through the push rod to the screw, nut, and bearings, and finally acts on the front flange and cylinder mounting points. Its hazards are mainly reflected in two aspects:
1. Risk of screw breakage
When the impact force exceeds the material strength limit of the screw, or the screw is subjected to repeated impacts over time, fatigue cracks will occur, and in severe cases, direct breakage. According to industry cases, unreasonable selection caused by excessive load, excessive forward/reverse frequency, or "crash" impact triggered by emergency stops are the main causes of screw breakage.
2. Damage to flanges and fixed structures
As a key load-bearing component of the electric servo cylinder, the flange may deform, or its mounting bolts may loosen or even break if the impact force exceeds its designed load capacity. This further leads to loose installation of the electric servo cylinder and secondary operational failures.
Such damage not only causes equipment downtime but may also trigger safety accidents due to component detachment. Therefore, risks must be evaluated in advance during the design phase, rather than remedied after failures occur.
