Five Core Factors Influencing the Service Life of Precision Electric Cylinders

1. Load Conditions: Overload and Eccentric Load — Major Causes of Service?Life Reduction

Premature aging and failure of most electric cylinders are mainly caused by improper load application. Continuous operation beyond rated thrust, insufficient load safety margin, and eccentric lateral force directly trigger over?load wear on lead screws, balls and guide sliders. The clearance of transmission pairs increases rapidly, accompanied by continuous accuracy degradation. Compared with operation under rated load, long?term slight overload can raise the wear rate of electric cylinders by 2?3 times and greatly shorten equipment service cycles.

2. Installation Accuracy: Assembly Deviations Induce Continuous Mechanical Wear

Uneven mounting surfaces, guide?rail parallelism errors and flange coaxiality misalignment of precision electric cylinders create uneven force on the sliding table and excessive unilateral frictional resistance. Each reciprocating movement generates persistent abnormal mechanical wear. Cumulative damage over time results in partial lead?screw abrasion, slider wear and cylinder deformation. It is a highly hidden factor that consumes service life.

3. Operating Parameters: High?speed Shock and Parameter Mismatch Accelerate Deterioration

Improperly tuned servo parameters, such as overly short acceleration?deceleration time and excessive system rigidity, produce severe instantaneous shock and inertial force during start?stop and direction reversal, damaging transmission structures. Long?term operation at maximum speed and full stroke keeps motors and transmission components under sustained full?load stress, accelerating component fatigue and aging and shortening overall equipment service life.

4. Environmental Conditions: Harsh Environments Speed up Component Aging and Wear

Dust, oil contamination, humidity, high?low temperature and mild corrosion cause severe damage to precision electric cylinders. Dust particles entering lead?screw raceways lead to abrasive wear. Humidity causes metal corrosion and grease emulsification failure. High and low temperatures accelerate aging of seals, belts and lubricants, rapidly degrading transmission performance and significantly increasing failure rates.

5. Maintenance Status: Inadequate Lubrication — Main Trigger for Premature Failure

Core transmission components of precision electric cylinders rely on grease to reduce frictional loss. Failure to replace grease or remove dust contaminants for extended periods forces transmission pairs to work under dry friction, bringing about local overheating, rapid component wear, stuttering and abnormal noise. Many pieces of equipment are scrapped in advance not because hardware reaches the end of its service life, but due to long?term lack of maintenance.
